The conference runs from Tuesday 26th August to Saturday 30th August 2003. The programme is as follows:

• Tuesday 26th : Pre-conference workshops and tutorials

• Wednesday 27th : Day 1 of conference, with

  • Morning: opening keynote, Ted Nelson and the first two paper sessions on Mixed Reality Hypermedia and Emergent Web Patterns

  • Afternoon: opens with Hypertext Readings, and continues with paper sessions on Hypermedia Semantics and Adaptive Hypermedia (i).

  • Evening: Reception at Town Hall

• Thursday 28th : Day 2 of conference

• Morning: Starts with the first panel, The Next Big Thing Inc., followed by paper sessions Link Aggregation and Hypermedia Creation.

• Afternoon: Hypertext films an experiment in social awareness and hypermedia writing.

• Evening: Conference Dinner

• Friday 29th : Day 3 (final day) of conference

  • Morning: starts with the second panel, Writing Accessible Hypertext/media followed by paper sessions Hypermedia Systems and Adaptive Hypermedia (ii)

  • Afternoon: paper sessions Web Engineering and Links for a Better Web precede the closing keynote, Peter Nuernberg.

• Saturday 30th : Post-conference workshops and tutorials; doctoral consortium.

Keynotes

We are very pleased to announce the following excellent keynote speakers for Hypertext 2003:

• Ted Nelson - Ted almost needs no introduction. He is one of the best-known hypertext researchers who always has something controversial or thought-provoking to say. His talk for this keynote is titled Structure, Tradition and Possibility.
• Peter Nuernberg - Pete is another of the hypertext field's better-known people, with leading work in open hypertext and component-based hypertext. He too is willing to discuss the radical or controversial. His talk for this keynote is titled What is Hypertext?

Hypertext films

• Sliding Doors : a pleasant, general exhibition film about what happens if London publicist Helen (Gwyneth Paltrow) does or does not catch a morning train back to her apartment. This is a simple parallel storyline.
• Minority Report : Futuristic sci-fi action movie with Tom Cruise (dir Spielberg). It is particularly interesting to us because of sequences showing a user interface that is the Hollywood take on Ted Nelson's ZigZag!

The films will be a plenary session, and will be shown on the Main university campus, just a short walk from where the conference dinner will be the same evening. There will be buses to carry delegates from the Jubilee Campus where most of the conference events are held to the films and dinner.
